Cash Flow Crisis in an SME

Crisis Management | Duration: 7 months + extension

Context: Financial crisis management for a construction SME in the canton of Vaud.

Background: A Vaud-based SME in the construction sector was struggling: 2020 accounts were not finalized, cash flow was critical, the ERP system was ill-suited to the business, and contracts were being signed with poorly controlled margins.

NIMSwitzerland’s Solution: A Zurich-based interim manager — a finance expert with deep knowledge of the construction sector and its specific practices (worksites, consortiums, project management) — was introduced as a second option. After an initial phase focused on stabilizing contracts and finalizing the accounts and audits, the interim manager tackled the company’s organization and ERP system. Baubit was chosen as the new ERP. Several internal promotions were made within the finance department, some staff returned to operational roles, and new business control processes were implemented.

Result: After more than a year of stabilization, the interim manager successfully handed over to a younger, local CFO, with the financial situation restored.
